Candidate Pipeline

The candidate pipeline refers to the list, or backlog, of people who have applied for a job at a company and are being considered for the position. The pipeline is also a workflow guide for managing and tracking candidates through different phases of the recruitment process.

Purpose

The purpose of the candidate pipeline is to streamline the recruitment process and enhance the visibility of candidate status. It helps in coordinating communication among recruiting team members and improves decision-making by providing structured information at each stage.

Format

The format of a candidate pipeline typically includes: a kanban style structure with the following sections:

  1. Applications: The people who have applied for the job.
  2. Phone Interview: Candidates who have passed the initial screening and are scheduled for a phone interview.
  3. Interviewing: Candidates go through several rounds of technical and HR interviews.
  4. Offer: The selected candidate receives a job offer.
  5. Hired: Upon acceptance of the offer, the candidate is onboarded.
  6. Closed: Unsuccessful candidates are informed and the pipeline is updated.

Anti-patterns

  • Failure to update the pipeline: Not keeping the pipeline current can lead to confusion and delays.
  • Neglecting candidate experience: Focusing only on speed and not on candidate interaction can harm the company's reputation.
  • Bias in screening: Introducing bias during resume screening or interviews can lead to missed opportunities and legal complications.
